"This Year I Devour"
Acrylic on canvas and wood cut frame
This painting is based on the sin of "Gluttony". The third sin depicted in my series. It serves as a metaphor for the power an individual can feel with overindulgence, even if it comes at the expense of others suffering. This sin knows no moderation or self restraint yet, it is not as simple as food. Wanting to devour, feels powerful, even sensual at times, but it is a temporary gratification. Appetite isn’t necessarily bad, like christian theologians might argue. Yet it is an appetite that is misdirected, gluttony can only be triumphed by real emotional fulfillment
